Livable bridge

This is a short introductory project of a Design Studio focused on livable spaces. The goal was to find the best location and shape for a personal livable space. The requirements were for the architectural object to be 100 m3, to be located in the 'Lavapiés' neighborhood in Madrid and to be easily accessible from the public space.

The chosen object is a livable bridge, in between the rooftops two buildings in a narrow street. This allows the space to have great views and good ventilation, as the athics of modern buildings are always a privileged position. To maintain the privacy needed in a home, two lineal balconies on the side block the view of the inside from the street. These balconies have a corresponding roof, avoiding the direct sunlight of the city of Madrid to come in. Also, mobile blinds can also be adjusted depending on the weather and time of day.

The chosen structure is inspired in conventional bridges. It is a metal cross beam with a metal substructure for the top and bottom slabs. The 'bridge' is placed in North-South direction, this way the windows are East-West oriented, optimal in the city.
